Originally designed as a new class of multi-mission stealth warships with a focus on land attacks, the primary role of the Zumwalt-Class Destroyer was to provide naval gun-fire support as well as surface and anti-aircraft warfare capabilities. Intended to provide the naval fire support of a battleship, the vessel was designed around its two Advanced Gun Systems (AGS) and unique Long Range Land Attack Projectile (LRLAP) ammunition. The first ship of this class was commissioned in 2016 with Taylor Devices’ products onboard.
More recently, with hypersonic threats on the rise and a heightened need for strategic deterrence, the US Navy decided that the warship needed a role change with significant modernization required to do so, including the addition of hypersonic missiles.
As this modernization is now underway for the 3-ship class, Taylor Devices is proud to remain a designer and supplier of new specialized equipment for use onboard this unique warship.
