This Pre-Northridge Moment Frame structure in downtown Oakland was voluntarily upgraded with dampers distributed up most of the height. Damper sizes were limited to avoid axial loads that would require upgrades to existing columns and foundations. As a result of adding dampers, no beam-column joints, columns or footings had to be upgraded to meet the performance objectives.
